Community Guidelines
Last updated October 19, 2026
CoffeeChat works when people are real with each other and decent to each other. These are the rules everyone agrees to.
Be who you say you are
- Use your real name and a real, current photo of you. No AI-generated photos, and no photos of someone else.
- Students: sign up with your own .edu email, at the school you attend now.
- One account per person. Don’t impersonate anyone.
Keep it about careers
People are here to network, practice interviews and help each other get hired. Treat every chat the way you would treat a conversation with a future coworker.
Be decent
- No harassment, threats, bullying, stalking or intimidation, on or off the app.
- No hate speech, sexual content or violence, and nothing illegal.
- Give practice feedback that is honest and kind. The point is to help someone get better.
Respect privacy
- Don’t share anyone else’s private information.
- Never share intimate images of anyone.
No spam and no selling
- Don’t spam, sell, or recruit for pyramid or multi-level schemes.
- Don’t ask other students for money.
- Don’t scrape the app, automate it, or try to get around its limits or security.
Post what is yours
Only post content you have the right to share. If someone has posted your work without permission, see our Copyright Policy.
Meet safely
Coffee chats happen in the real world, and you decide whether and where to meet. Meet in busy public places, tell a friend, and leave if anything feels off. Our safety tips have the full list.
For mentors
Mentors are people with jobs who give students their time. Every mentor is approved by our team before any student sees them. On top of everything above, as a mentor:
- Be truthful about your work and the college you went to.
- No selling. Don’t pitch courses, coaching or services to students.
- Never ask a student for money, for anything.
- No recruiting. A coffee chat is advice, not a hiring pitch.
- Don’t ask anyone out. A coffee chat is about careers, and never romantic or sexual.
- Keep what a student tells you to yourself.
- Meet where students feel safe: a video call, or a busy coffee shop when you’re near each other.
Students: if a mentor breaks any of these, report them from your conversation (the three dots, then Report), or email coffeechat.dev.team@gmail.com. A person on our team reads it, and a mentor who breaks these rules loses their account.
When someone breaks the rules
Report them from your conversation with them. A person on our team reviews every report. We may remove content, suspend an account (it becomes read-only) or ban it. If you think we got a decision wrong, email coffeechat.dev.team@gmail.com.
